@19TEC85 No, they only doubled the size of the budgets of CERTAIN departments, like Defense and Homeland Security, where most of the money went to corporate donors. Other departments were saddled with deliberately incompetent management (for example, the EPA and FEMA, who could forget "heckofajob" Brownie) and weakened by atrocious legislation like No Child Left Behind.

@CognosSquare These polls depend on the MOST ENTHUSIASTIC voters. With Paul's small but very enthusiastic cult following, then he has a massive advantage.

@jopie90 no, the most destructive policies have been the ones that have been undertaken under every president since Reagan, with the possible exception of Clinton who actually balanced the budget. Military spending has needlessly skyrocketed.

@19TEC85 Yes, "crazy" is a great word for it. Much of the money they spent was simply massive gifts for their corporate contributors. If they were spending it like sane people, the infrastructure across America would not be decaying, the welfare and healthcare systems would not be overstretched, and the military would be an effective fighting force, without expensive useless boondoggles.

@beebee3319 They only reflect the opinions of the most enthusiastic. And Paul supporters are the most enthusiastic, but a minority.

@jopie90 The dotcom bubble was a factor, but mostly the Clinton surplus was because of higher taxes on the wealthy and some spending cuts.

@19TEC85 The Republicans and the military industrial complex do NOT WANT PEACE, and therefore Paul will be blocked at every turn in that regard... Of course, they love his stance on the EPA, getting rid of welfare, all that stuff, so they will let him go full speed ahead in doing those things...
