... mostly rich peoples charities, the ballet, the opera, cancer research (one of them has cancer), and of course, a massive number of organisations that serve as mouthpieces for their company.

considering the amount of wealth they have built up over the last 50 years, that's absolute peanuts. And much of it is tax deductible. And much of that is not actually to charity, but to their special interest groups that are moer about trying to minimise their own tax than actual charitable works. They do give to cancer research, but one of them has cancer, so that is understandable.

maybe, but the rightwing have SO MANY of them. Koch Industries, the Walmart family, Newscrap, and all that the left has is Soros...

... tax minimising themselves, WHILE throwing money at whatever they approve of, and undermining everything they hate...for them, it's win-win-win.
