They are within the highly wealthy, upper class of Chinese society so many of them were able to relocate to other places temporarily but this sort of incident happens frequently in poor places and we won't hear about it because it's easy to cover up and hide what happens in those smaller, poorer cities. Those people in the apartments of smaller, poorer Chinese cities would end up homeless (possibly permanently) as a result of this degree of subsidence of their apartment blocks.
