Nice video. Curious. Where did you get the wallpaper and what font style are you using in your terminal? Thanks.

@Doriandotslash I will give it an honest try this time. I played with it in a VB but didn't give it much of a chance. I will give it another shot. Thanks again. My laptop is pretty powerful. I have a quad core I7 24GB RAM, new Crucial SSD. So, everything ran fine, except for silly little things. For example, in Budgie, I could not get the Gnome Tweak tool to run. I would click on it but it wouldn't launch. I'm new to all of this stuff so I haven't earned the right to get frustrated. I tried Gnome 3.30 but the extensions were a nightmare to setup and I could not get rid of the unity style screen when hitting the Alt key. I am definitely keeping Manjaro. I might even try to attempt to create my own desktop, as you have shown in your tutorials. It won't be easy but that's how you learn.

@Doriandotslash Thank you.

I have a question. I am running Manjaro Cinnamon and backed up everything for my user. If I were to install another distro, over Manjaro Cinnamon, could I restore with TimeShift the previous version of Cinnamon without any hassles? Would Manjaro run without any problems?
1
@Doriandotslash I should probably reinstall Cinnamon then restore from Timeshift. Would that be better?

How about doing a video on Kvantum? I am going to look into it myself but I think it would be a great video for newbies like me. The thing i don't like about many of these Gnome based desktops are how to customize the CSS files in order to increase the width of scrollbars. I managed to figure most of it out but it's a pain. It's a totally different DOM animal than a browser and I can't find an element list anywhere. That's why I am interested in Kvantum. You can use CSS files to customize it but it's much easier.

@Doriandotslash I see. Basically, using it to create a new DE.

How about installing the Archlabs Distro? I just stumbled across it and it looks interesting.
1
@Doriandotslash No problem. Just a suggestion. I will try it out on a VM. I installed Arch in a VM with no DE. But, I might run into hardware problems if I install it to my other partition.

Maybe you can help me become a Gnome fan. The problems I had were the following: Some of the extensions worked in real time when enabling, others didn't. When some of the extensions were enabled in real time, I couldn't disable them in real time. Also, I do not like the entire show all of my apps within the entire screen. I like menus. I had it set up where I installed a bar and had a menu but when i hit the "Windows" key, it still brought up the left launch pad and the applications on my desktop. Is there a way to get rid of this functionality permanently?

@Doriandotslash Gotcha.

I tried Manjaro KDE. Although I am sold on Manjaro. I am yet to find a good DE. I have tried almost all of them. I tried KDE and it looked wonderful but I continued to get these IO errors when using specific programs and could not find a solution. It's an unpredictable Desktop and I don't like that. I do like Bungie but cannot find a way to put icons on the desktop. I think Cinnamon might work for me long term. I dual boot with Manjaro and Windows 10. I just started the Linux stuff a month ago. I really wanted to learn the command line so I first installed a small Ubuntu Vagrant Box and installed a LAMP stack. But I hate Windows but there some things you just can't do on any edition of Linux. I don't think I will ever use Linux exclusively.
1
@Doriandotslash Do you think it's possible to make XFCE look like KDE Plasma, without installing any of the KDE components? I have to use Kmail though. That''s the best linux mail app, IMO.

@Doriandotslash In the late 90's I bought Red Hat but it was extremely difficult to configure. I had to build everything and compile the kernel all of the time. I never even saw a desktop on that thing. It was a mess. No drivers for anything. Not even my modem, at the time. Nothing. If I had been able to get online with it, I would have had more success. But I would have to boot to Windows in order to research topics and print them out. Absolute nightmare. After that, I didn't' mess with Linux until just recently. I was too busy working and didn't have the time and I was a windows developer at the time.

@Doriandotslash I might try to create a custom spin with that Manjaro Architect. I saw a few tutorials.

@Doriandotslash I was just playing with Manjaro Xfce. It has just as many configuration options as KDE and if I am not mistaken, with GTK3 and QT, I can install Gnome and KDE apps and they will look as though they were running on those systems?
1
@Doriandotslash Thunar has to go. I like Nemo.

I am starting to like Gnome. I want to start looking for a good window tile manager. I want to start using keyboard shortcuts. I think I will install Arch then Gnome on top of it.

I decided to go with Manjaro Cinnamon. It is an absolutely gorgeous DE. I installed a separate icon theme Dark-Plane Arch and a regular theme named Qogir Dark. Take a look at this screen shot. It looks as though the bottom task bar has a purple neon light over it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/sw9mnatyc9mwftr/manjaro-cinnamon.png?dl=0 In a Vmware Workstation, the desktop was using about a GB but that's fine. I have 24 GB.

@Doriandotslash That doesn't mean I am sold on any one desktop for good. We all like change and I can install as many desktops as I like. That's the great thing about Linux. I just need something for now so I can continue my studies on Linux. I have a question. I really like Kmail and want to use it with Cinnamon but I don't know how much of the KDE desktop dependencies are needed. If it is too much, then I will not install it. I see the dependencies in Pamac, around 18GB. What are your thoughts on installing KDE apps on other desktops? Also, I have other questions to ask you. Where should I post them?
1
@Doriandotslash I watched your video on the file system and systemd, system.d, etc. This is where I get confused. I see system.d directories, system.conf files, etc... I don't know if these files are written to by processes or configure the process. For instance, the /etc directory. Is that for making settings for executable files or output from system daemons? It's things like that.
