Nob Hill was bedrock as well. The wealthy people built their homes there. The landfill area was along the bay closed to the Barbary Coast. The wealthy people did not build their homes there. After the 1906 earthquake and fire, Nob Hill became high rise hotels and apartment buildings. That was when the millionaires began building their homes in Pacific Heights. Actually, by 1905 Nob Hill had begun to become commercialized, and the newly wealthy people were already building mansions in Pacific Heights.
