  1. First we have get rid of the Romantic notion of agriculture and the people who do agriculture. The people who make vaccines and medicines are no less important. The people who writes sophisticated software to enable this research is no less important as well. The people who build computer chips that runs this softwares are not less important too. Not to mention the doctors and nurses and the hospital establishment that help humanity to survive deadly diseases. Not to mention other goodies of civilization including journalists. Individually, a farmer is just doing his job, trying to make money and be wealthy just like any others are doing - selling his produce. But today, these landed people from Punjab area (unlike the majority of urban dwellers) with more land than the average Indian farmers are spoiled by the guaranteed market - FCI - and therefore wealth. There is no guarantee of income for any income tax paying citizens unfortunately. Imagine one lakh software Engineers doing dharna in New Delhi asking for the withdrawal of income tax!!! It is romantic notion that is the culprit.
