  1. Interesting, Shekhar Gupta also claims - 1857 is the first war of independence. This is the consequence of the propaganda done by our First Education Minister. For whose independence? what was the goal of that war? a Democracy and a Republic? - Nationalism as yet get it footing in India then, National consciousness was zero. The GOAL was to establish the Turki rule in India again. Good that it failed. Allah is merciful and compassionate indeed. And we have Democracy and a Republic call India. Just imagine, if Turks came back defeating the British - what would have happened to Indian Subcontinent. A Pakistan. In the year 1858, three universities were established by an act of British Parliament in India - Calcutta University, Madras University and Bombay University - a first after all were destroyed by the Turks by 1200 CE (Khilji and his dacoits) - and the rest is history.
