  1. There is a racial angle to the Ashraf and the "others" All pale skinned Afghan and Turki lineage thinks they are racially superiors. All backward Muslims are invariably darker in complexion. They don't marry amongst themselves for racial reasons. Islam or otherwise. Note that there are dark skinned Brahmins in India - Brahmins traditionally being the priestly class acroas societies - not a race or ethnicity. For example the compiler of Veda was a Dark skinned person. As are moat important deities in India - be it Shiva or Vishnu or Krishna or Rama or Kali. So when discussing Islam and its problems, why bring in Brahmins. Looks like an easy punching bag for most colonized minds.

  2. Even after 75 years since partition of this country in the name of Islam, the mainland is still obsessed with followers of Islam all the time. Sometimes it feels Indian media is the most casteist and most communal set of institutions in India. Nothing else to do, but the low hanging fruits and keep talking about it ad nauseam. So a US degree in political science or Journalism - the name cow belt obsession and intellectual focus.
