  2. It's a theory based on earlier evidence when trying to measure the speed of the Universe expanding. More experiments could provide more information, that is how science works.

Calm down a bit, AI isn't a god and we're about two orders of magnitude in propulsion tech from ever reaching any star beyond our own sun in a way that would make seeking resources anything but meaningless.

  11. Jesus f*ckin' Christ, this isn't a mapping mission and effectively infinite to us does not mean actually infinite. The 5% is the KIND of matter we can see. It's like looking through a giant stained-glass window when you can't see colors, some of it is darker or lighter but you just look through it and can't even comprehend what those colors might be. If your eyes could see the colors, then you might understand the picture depicted. Only in this case, it's more like we can see the slightest amount of light on a floor and the rest is beyond our ability to see. We have to make machines capable of detecting more of it, that is the point. Not to map anything, but to understand a little more about kinds of matter and energy that we can't see or normally even detect.

  13. Regular visible matter, as in hydrogen and helium and so forth, makes up an estimated 5%. So the vast majority of what is out there is stuff we know virtually nothing about and can't see but can detect is having an influence on regular matter, that is the whole damn point. This isn't about mapping, it is about trying to understand what all that stuff we can't even see actually is, even in some small way. It's like when humans began to figure out what a gas was, or the concept of nuclear bonds, even without being able to see them.
