One thing I have noticed is that Close bonds and friendships between people are less valuable now then ever before. In the past, tight bonds with your neighbors/tribe didn't just feel nice...it was necessary for survival. But in the modern world, people are more dependent on their job (or lack thereof) then they are their friends and family. This creates a sort of Pointlessness to the very notion of tight friendships. This is an orthogonal point to whats spoken about here but it may be relevant to some of the political leanings we are seeing.
