  16. I wouldn't be surprised if Ukrainian weapons seized by the Russians end up in Africa. Russia is active in Africa, and Russia would like to move those weapons out of their own region. As for the Finland and Europe route, I'd assume those are coming from thieves in Ukraine, probably those sympathetic to Russia. That's because it would be unpatriotic to remove usable weapons from Ukraine forces. So Russian sympathizers - of which there are many - would be inclined to weaken Ukrainian resistance by stealing arms and shipping them out before they can be used.

  24. This has been an issue for years. As with every state, there's a fair bit of corruption because nobody pays much attention to state politics. There's hardly any news coverage, aside from reports of traffic accidents and the weather. In AZ, to some extent investigative journalism died with Don Boles (the mafia blew up his car, with him in it). I don't think anybody has said much about organized crime in AZ since, and that was in 1976.

However, you have no room to negotiate if peace is your stated position internationally. They have to believe you're going to show up in force to defend, wherever. It's Teddy Roosevelt's "big stick" argument. You can't warn off troublemakers by saying, "Hey, I'm unarmed and I won't fight you." People operating in the realm of violence are deterred only by the thought of being overmatched and destroyed. For the record, though Teddy had served in war, as a president he did not start any wars. In fact, he received a Nobel peace prize.

FWIW, the CIA was created under a Democrat president, as was the Federal Reserve and the FBI (expanded by Wilson who appointed J Edgar Hoover). Technically, Hoover was not chief during Wilson's term, but he moved into that position shortly thereafter. Prior to that he had been part of the "Alien Enemy Bureau" and the head of the "General Intelligence Division" aka the "Radical Division." While I might learn something in the future that would change my mind, I'd say that in 1919 when he is appointed head of this division, that's when the deep state officially starts. By that time you've got the Federal Reserve in charge of finances and the US is just emerging from a period of very controversial emergency war powers. Hoover is tasked with monitoring "radicals" for the security of the nation, including one person (Felix Frankfurter) who became a Supreme Court justice. Hoover was notorious for having files on everyone. Anyway, lots of interesting things happening in that time period that most people don't know about. It's too bad we haven't seen more of that time recounted in the movies. So much stuff happened that would make a great background for stories.

  37. One way to look at this is to blame it on the unelected federal bureaucracy. They're the ones pushing the cost of federal government up every year. They don't want their programs / salaries cut. Instead, it's constant growth of federal government, increasing the burden on the taxpayer, increasing the national debt. My position is to immediately cut the staffing of federal government by 90%. I bet we would see ZERO negative effect by cutting 50%, except for cranky employees sabotaging things. Cutting 90% would work better, I suspect, because then we'd have fewer federal employees throwing wrenches into the works, and more real solutions that will actually work with a smaller government.

  42. Well ... it's kind of silly game to try to say who was more evil. Like, who was more evil: Hitler or Stalin? Both were awful. It reminds me of a scene in I think it was "Stand By Me" where the kids are arguing about who is stronger, Superman or Mighty Mouse? These sorts of comparisons can easily lead to logical fallacies. In the case of neo-Nazis versus Putin, it's more reasonable to point out that Putin is an international menace, while the neo-Nazis appear to be a local menace. That's more to the point instead of, "who is more evil?"

BTW, you know that Biden has promised billions in arms for Taiwan.
