  1. I don't think my mother's fig trees had the wasps, but when ripe that hole at the bottom would open, and once that happened, tiny beetles would crawl in. So you had to be diligent about catching the figs when they first softened, but the hole at the bottom was not yet open. Some years it was impossible, but other years you could catch nearly all of them. Must have had something to do with heat or rain patterns.
