This seems logical. People working on the Drake equation acknowledge that it could be that despite the vast number of stars in a galaxy, there might be only one planet in each galaxy that can host life. So if we have "extraterrestrials" on Earth, maybe they were actually born on Earth, just a long time ago. And perhaps they've already had their space age.
