Primates including primates are omnivores and their dentation represents that with different parts of their dentation for different materials. The deer in the example were after calcium according to research and were less interested in meat. Yes, carnivores may eat grasses or fruit occasionally, but they could not survive on a meat free diet. The reverse is true of Herbivores.
