From the Flying pancake, an experimental naval fighter around the beginning of WWII which was a disk shaped aircraft with the flattened outer edges as wings. German WWII work on a flying saucer shaped flying machine. After WWII, the US and Canadians worked on a saucer which actually got off the ground. It wasn't flyable because it wasn't analog controllable. We are in the digital age today; so with modern computer tech would make them more feasible. So, very possibly, a secret US project based on those earlier experiments.

If the total casualties (dead only) are correct, the total casualties (dead, wounded and missing) should be at least twice that. So the range should be between 14,000 and 28,000. Heavily engaged units may have been rendered combat ineffective; ywhile lightly engaged units should be nearer normal strength. I would like to know how much of the reguilar Russian troops are involved in the Ukraine. Russia has enemies other than NATO who might fish in troubled waters if Russia has too much of its ground army tied down.

@larryo6874 The estimates of dead range from 7,000 (Western intelligence) to 14,000+ (Ukrainian); while officially Russia says much less. The reported 10,000 mentioned may be an accurate count. Why I am interested in the total size of the Russian active army and the percentage in the Ukraine, is that I wonder which group of people Imperial Rusdia and then the successor states angered that might think a Russia obsessed with the Ukraine might be vulnerable?
