That's a simplistic answer with no relevance to the real world. No matter who Germany elects, and it's true for the Western World in general, the problems are structural, legacy, and inherent to the system. There is no way out by electing a leader, unless he is going to assume dictatorial power. Even then, that cannot reverse overnight the changes in geopolitics, the Aging of the population, or the capital structure of the economy. Let's have a real discussions instead of simplistic slogans.

@robadams7233 LOL, the West cannot survive outside of plunder. Even in the case of china they were not able to equalize their balance of payment without the opium wars. From 1860 to roughly 1940, when the Western unchallenged in the world, the social demands for spoils meant that even with a heavy investment rate and lots of savings, they still required plunder for natural resources in order to subsidize their industry in industrial workers. In every case of direct head competition, the West is unable to pay the market price for resources without running a current account deficit. The issue between the United States and the EU is that their interests are not aligned, not that they view the concept of Interest differently.

What was Europe to do? The United States is the largest country in western civilization, 4x the population of Germany. Even if we count brazil, which is a peripheral Western Country, the United States is still 1 1/2 times larger. It is only natural that the United States was going to dominate western civilization and would be the deciding factor. The European Union was attempted as a counterweight to the power of the United states, but for all the hate the EU gets from over regulation and interference, violation of sovereignty, it has not been able to pull enough consensus to coordinate European policy enough to resist American coercion.

@ksanghue5340 this will probably be blocked or deleted by youtube, but I will say it anyway. No Nation or people can operate a liberal democratic system without a source of external plunder to subsidized its masses so that they will not use their right of suffrage, on par with the actual producers and contributors to society, to enrich themselves at the expense of the aforementioned class. This is with 18th century liberals called a general spoilation and why they post Universal suffrage.
