I was always of the understanding that the cold and fly viruses were more readily transferred through physical contact rather than airborne transmission. With that in mind it still astonished me how many people were (and still are) wearing masks in a supermarket but walk straight past the hand sanitiser dispenser.

@catwoman7462 There is sufficient clinical evidence that supports the benefit of wiping surfaces clean according to the trials run mentioned. I tend to think of train carriages as mobile petrie dishes. I use to drive buses and they can get quite disgusting at times. I tend to agree that we may tend to put too much emphasis on 'sanitising'. Some (as you pointed out) are downright paranoid. I only use the sanitiser at the supermarket because it's there and there's no down side to taking advantage of it.

@marenpurves4493 That's true. In fact it was only the other day that an elderly lady offered me some of hers when the dispenser at the store was empty. I'm guessing most people don't bother though.

@Portia620 Makes you wonder why so many fully vaccinated people wearing masks all day still managed to contract the virus though doesn't it.

@cloudie9druoid172 That makes good sense in terms of self protection but I think the idea of sanitising before you enter the supermarket is to mitigate any transfer from your hands onto anything (or anyone) inside.
