If what you say is true, that's even more reason to negotiate. Russia's not going to give up. There's no chance in Russia collapsing. China and other countries surrounding Russia would be pulled into the war way before that to prevent a refugee crisis. So the only alternative is to keep fighting the war indefinitely if there's no negotiations. And indefinitely doesn't exist in our world, at some point there would be negotiations.
Speaking of China, they negotiated a deal between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority to form a unity government of technocrats to govern Gaza. Hamas and the PA fought a war. Before that, last year China restored diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran, two bitter rivals. At this rate, China may play a role in the end of the Ukraine war with another diplomatic win. The real winner in the Ukraine war is not the US, Europe or Russia, it's China. China's showing the maturity to handle situations with diplomacy and dialogue. The US, Europe, and Russia are showing they only know warfare to solve disputes. For the majority of the world, they want peace and trade so China's looking like a strong candidate for being a superpower in the 21st century.

War war war, that's all the US, Russia and Europe talk about. Meanwhile China has pursued diplomacy last to get Hamas and the PA, two Palestinian factions that fought a war against each other, to agree to a unity technocrat government after the war in Gaza. Before that, China got Saudi Arabia and Iran, two bitter rivals, to restore diplomatic ties. Out of the 5 UN permanent security council members, only one of them is interested in diplomacy, peace and trade, capitalism. Surprisingly it's China. The other 4, the US, UK, France and Russia are involved in war in one way shape or form.
