"Despite being Center-Right may gain support from the Liberals". Isn't Liberalism supposed to be Center-Right?

Well if that happens member states lose a lot of power and Brussels gains much more. I'm not sure this would be done efficiantly without other measures.

@cheydinal5401 I don't think older people support the Right significantly more anymore. In Greece, for example, only about 1% of old people voted for Golden Dawn, while 13% of young people did. And in a lot of Europe the Far-Right is based on young people.

@anthonyburke5677 It's the first time the I would have heard the word being used by that in Europe. "Liberal", and especially "Neo-Liberal", is commonly used as an insult by Leftists.

@cheydinal5401 Oh, I didn't get the Game of Thrones reference. I can't see how an anti-European would want to give the parliament more power, as it takes power from member-states. Given how most anti-Europeans want their governments to get more power, I don't see how empowering a pan-European institution while taking power from the members. I think it could only work if they think they would get a parliamentary majority, but that's borderline impossible for the near future.

@cheydinal5401 People who want to be democratic aren't against the EU. There are people who just want to demolish it, or take all its power and just turn it into a mechanism that supplies their countries with money (the Hungarian government, and I assume the majority of Hungarians that support it, would be a prime example). There are movements to democratise the EU, mainly DiEM25, but they wouldn't call themselves, and wouldn't be called by others, "anti-European". A xenophobic majority in the Council could be more conceivable, after all 4 of 28 (soon to be 27) seats in the council are now strongly for that, and in the near future they could slightly gain 14, after all, most government have xenophobic policies in one way or another, most just don't do it so openly.

@cheydinal5401 It's certainly an ambitious goal. How the sutuation is now, more democracy and more power to the parliament could mean the end of the Far-Right.

We already have a parliamentary system in several members. The "Prime Commissioner" doesn't have to be the President of the first party, they Council can just appoint him and if the Parliament disapproves they appoint the President of the second largest party. They could essentially ask them sequentially to "form a government."

@anthonyburke5677 I do actually. That's why it's in quotation marks, it's in analogy with the parliamentary system that exist in most members and can be used as a model.
