No one is saying it's free. They are saying that single-payer cuts out the insurance profit middleman.

@Glock2201 Kind of, but without the profit motive. Imagine the bargaining power of the entire weight of the federal government. Right now insurance companies take 20% (by law) off the top of premiums to pay administrative costs and profit. Imagine if at least 10% of that was spent on more treatment.

@kevzzz1186 Look at the hamstrings the GOP hangs on many of those federal agencies. The DMV is your state's problem, mine works great. You want comparison? Read the JAMA report on Medicaid vs Private. Even they say single-payer works better, and believe me they prefer the higher profits from private insurance.

@VK-zt6sw Always have and always will. The ER must take people who walk through their doors, regardless. We pay for it with higher prices and premiums. I just happen to believe that cutting out the insurance profit will save money which can go to care instead.

There's a video of an older WV couple talking about how they now have healthcare they never had before. The husband had black lung from mining and the woman had diabetes. They praised that new ACA law. And then were shocked when they learned it is also called Obamacare.

@AN-nm1zy Do you also know that Clarence Thomas wrote a SCOTUS opinion that it's legal for insurance companies to withhold payment for life-saving treatments if they're too expensive? He said patients can always pay out of pocket.

@quinlan-sf7nj I don't have to imagine it, we already have a Medicaid program. Even JAMA prefers Medicaid over private insurance and studies have proven it is less expensive to run than private insurance.

@juliehargrove605 Do you think they'd get rid of every doctor in the US just because the system they're paid by changes? That's silly, we're already short of doctors, where would they get all these new doctors for 330 million people?

@juliehargrove605 And btw, I've had the same insurance for 28 years now. I have had 5 different primary care doctors in 4 years. Really.
