Um, it isn't a democrat/republican thing. It is a conservative/liberal one. And it is how things should work. We need the dreamers to push us forward and the realists to ask how to pay for the dreams. It's been fairly dysfunctional since the advent of cable opinion shows like this one, but has played this way since the beginning of the country. Look to the pushback about the Louisiana, Gadsden, and Alaska purchases. Now, imagine if those hadn't happened.
