Happy winter solstice! The days are now getting longer, planting season is coming.

@promethiac2641 Nothing like the frontlines of the WAR ON CHRISTMAS I begin to wear my antler helmet just after I eat Thanksgiving dinner. I often lob quarts of eggnog I pick up on sale at the local walmart...Jim Beam eggnog only because it's Fox approved of course.

@Capitalismrules When you do a bit of research on the origins of Christmas celebrations in the US you find they were not in fact what is prevalent today. The current versions only picked up steam in the 1830s.

@Capitalismrules I am from the American southwest. Before there was a United States Christmas was celebrated on what is now US land. The Christmas celebrations of Puebloan peoples have happened since the early 1500s, having been introduced by Spaniards. Pueblos tend to be much more religiously-oriented than the mass-commercialized version that most Americans celebrate.

@Capitalismrules I'm an atheist and believe that we can spread the ideals of Christmas throughout the year. Hypocrisy is one of the worst human traits, IMO. I see so many Christians who acknowledge their religiosity only twice a year except for using it to denigrate others occasionally. The rest of the time it is "do unto others, then split". I see more people use religion as a shield for their crappy behaviors than use it for good. People should believe what they choose, but live up to what they state to believe.

Merry Kwanzaa!

You do realize that communists are against all religions, yeah? Not just Christianity. Why would communists want Chanukah or that Indian holiday which starts with a B? Do you ever think, or are you just programmed to the victimhood default?

@Capitalismrules For many years after this country came into being, Christians celebrated on the 25th only. There was no "Christmas break" other than the single day. It wasn't even a recognized federal holiday until 1870. And I type all this not to denigrate the holiday, but rather to better explain my disgust with Fox's yearly WAR ON CHRISTMAS segments. These are simply to create greater divisions within Americans and point out people with different ideals as "others".

@Capitalismrules Again, you are relating recent US history. You are speaking of that about which is in your memories. For a very long time in the US there simply was no "Christmas break" other than the single day. Which is fine, but let's not get overly-dramatic about the importance of calling it "The Christmas Break". I tend to believe that a messianic God-figure would be disgusted to see what messes have been made in Its name.

@Capitalismrules That just gets me back to the premise that a returned messiah would be disgusted to see the things done in Its name. I used to say that so many wars in history were caused by religions. I've since become aware that wars and related horrors occur more because it is our nature. Aberations of survival instinct on larger scales.
