Hard to charge a body with a crime, Dave. Just type the word derp next time and save the effort.

@jasonk.3278 Yes, in this case, he had not touched anyone. His record shows other assaults, but Penny could not have known this. I actually think Penny's story will sway at least one, if not more, to acquit him. Hard situation which went too far, and yet I find the real crime to be the fact that we can no longer institutionalize those who obviously need to be.

@scoobydoo7737 You touch on the most important point. Why was this man not being treated for his obvious mental health problems? This isn't just a NY issue, but a national issue. We, the US, chose to deinstitutionalize the mentally ill starting in the 1960s. Starting with JFK and ending with Reagan, the institutions were closed and the thought was we were going to treat them outpatient or with short-term care. Chronic underfunding has left the mentally ill to fend for themselves and the rest of us to deal with them.

Magaworld certainly is a strange fantasy land. Sure bubsie, cops arrest DAs all the time...

Interesting case. I can imagine the cops must arrest anyone during that situation. The DA probably cannot, nor should not play judge (although I know they often do). Facts in this case will be adjudged by a jury of 12 just as they always are.

@brandonanderson5075 Do objective facts bother you? Got to go with your pfeels?

@lorrainearmstrong7587 It was the federal government which closed the mental institutions. While Ronnie sealed the deal, deinstitutionalization began with jfk. The thought was spending better on outpatient and short-term care was going to be viable. As Cecedit pointed out, Ronnie finished the closures and then in need of cuts for budget reconciliation, took the money allocated for this new type of mental healthcare. And it has never been seriously addressed since.

@Kill-The-Architect187 Um, this part of the older generation didn't and doesn't love Ronnie. He did though, help me understand that Republicans honestly don't care about the people they govern.

@henrymartin8997 Thanks, Elaine! I do take that as a compliment.

@joelwillems4081 Addiction IS a treatable mental illness. You call it a choice, but I don't think you really understand. Give oxy to 10 different people for a month. 4 of the 10 will become addicted to it. Many, like my former neighbor, were given the medication under the guise of medical treatment. She had a knee surgery. She had been an A student and tore up her knee in track. 8 years later she is dead. Never had done drugs before given her Sackler pills. Was she guilty?
