@Cupid-Stunt I have wondered (but not enough to investigate) how accurate were King James' biblical translators? I have seen several examples of translated words which have several possible meanings, which could change the meanings of some of the text. ???

@orsoncart1547 Gnostic, but yes, those gospels are important. The early church had reasons for banning them, but are the reasons still valid? An interesting note is that references to "James, brother of Jesus" (who was in charge of the church in Israel) were written off as heresy. Peter references James, the brother of Jesus, in Letters to the Corinthians, but his role is minimized. Power was centralized in Rome instead.

@Cupid-Stunt I also find it interesting mainly for technical reasons. For a period, I tried to find space for belief, but was repulsed by what I found. I am married to a true believer and we find it best to keep those discussions to a minimum. I believe in live and let live. At my shop the rule is no politics and no religion in discussions. It's best that way. I gave up on being anti-theist and anti-religion and have found peace in being atheist.

@Cupid-Stunt Recently the catholic church changed parts of the mass to correspond better to the latin versions. The spanish versions of the mass had actually followed the latin version better from the start. That makes sense.

@Cupid-Stunt I find that the text does contain some decent basic instructions on how to succeed as society, but the need to ascribe these truths to a diety are repulsive, as are the outdated and superstitious parts. There is an interesting satirical book called Lamb of God, which I found helpful in understanding the value of a tome such as the bible. It covers the 20 missing years of Jesus' life not covered in the bible. Good read.

@Cupid-Stunt Anyone with common sense would realize that the powerful leaders in most cultures have always described their power as derived from a god. Incans, mayans, North American shaman, all the kings of europe and beyond, china, etc. This fact alone makes the idea of a diety suspect.
