  7.  @meganinwood5470  Um, kids get to the point where they are no longer with you 24/7. The friends have phones, the library has a computer and the internet, etc. And I'm not saying that this ISN'T a parenting job, but it is one which is also out of control on the corporate side. Good luck in your efforts, though!

  8.  @meganinwood5470  Yeah, I've got a range of kids and now grandkids. The threats within the internet, and social media specifically, have evolved over time. Besides those things you mentioned, kids right now have to also contend with advanced algorithms, AI and rabbit-holing. Ah, the good old days when all we had to worry about was online predators... The shame is really seeing the state of the whole thing compared to the excitement I had when I first began using gophers to interact with Universities worldwide. I thought "this is going to change the world!". It did, of course, but differently than I imagined. I began a focus on programming while in college, but wisely (I think) left it for other subjects. I'm glad I did. These corporations which control most of the higher functions and also user-level interactions of the internet have one motivation...profit. In fact, they are mandated by law to work as hard as possible to get the best return possible for investors. And they usually go about this without thinking of how it impacts society. It is up to us, through our representatives, to control them.
