And that's great. But not everyone can or will become a tradesman. Plus, when competition becomes higher wages decline. Skilled trades cannot easily be outsourced though.

Exactly. I am troubled to hear people who disparage all college degrees. Of my own children, I have two with engineering degrees, one in science, one seeking an engineering degree and one about to start health sciences. There will always be those who achieve degrees in subjects not in high demand, but for many it is their own choice. An educated populace is a productive populace.

@bobroberts2371 And that's great for you. I am happy that worked for you, truly. But that is not the path for every individual. I have found that in many cases it is parents who let dependent college students wander into the weeds. I've helped each of my children along the way, but always conditional on the type of degree. My oldest grandson is also now in college and wants a music degree. My daughter said she will help provided he double-major and get a CS degree.

@bobroberts2371 I started and ran a college program in craftsmanship. I am also non-degreed but am an acknowledged (measured) expert in my field. Every year I would participate in graduating my students with all other faculty wearing their robes, caps, and kerchiefs while I just wore a suit. My former students are spread across the country with many running successful businesses and employing hundreds if not thousands.
