  1. Stereotypes contain a kernel of truth--that's why they continue to persist. It may be rooted in ignorance or may not be representative of the entirety of a given culture, but that doesn't mean that it's necessarily invalid. "Don't judge it with your values... don't judge us." We all make value judgements, whether consciously or subconsciously, so that's literally not possible. Evaluating a region through the prism of cultural relativism is also untenable. There are some cultures that are inherently better than others. Countries that practice barbarism like FGM or force women to don burqas outdoors should be deemed inferior compared to cultures that don't subscribe to those values.
