  1. The "Smartphone Brain" guy is right about modern technology shifting our priorities and making the traditional path less appealing. It's not just a phenomenon that's isolated to Japan, but all post-industrial developed nations as well. There's a reason third-world countries have the highest birth rates. They're all focused on day-to-day survival rather than being distracted by all of these external options. The woman holding the dog is a cautionary tale of elevating educational and career pursuits above family and children. Unfortunately for her, she had to learn it the hard way. In our parents' generation and certainly our grandparents' generation, the next chapter of life was obvious because there were no other options. Now we've got a million different ways to occupy our time; it's become both a blessing and a curse. "Rather than luxury, I think people will find joy in parenting." We are living in quite possibly the most narcissistic generation in human history. Good parents have to be inherently selfless. Kids today are prioritizing clout chasing over their own personal integrity. That materialist sentiment won't be changing anytime soon. "If it [marriage] doesn't work out, you can always get divorced." That's an easy thing to say, but it makes a mockery of the marital vow, which is supposed to last a lifetime. And it's also financially imprudent. A lot of divorced fathers end up in financial ruin and heartbreaking custody battles from bad divorces, even if they thought they were protected by a prenup.
