I've seen that happen many times in Taiwan. A greedy landlord raises the rent, the business closes or moves, and the storefront sits empty, sometimes for a year or more.

I haven't been to China for about 20 years, but I have been there five times. Every time, I was impressed with the inexpensive and delicious baked goods.

I noticed that in Taiwan, too. Stores with the same products tend to open in the same area as their competition, often right next door, instead of finding a place where they are the only one providing that product or service in the area.

@AWillis-ep5sc I was walking down the street in Taichung, Taiwan with a woman who was thinking about opening a (soupy) beef noodles (牛肉麵) restaurant, a very popular dish here. I told her to stop walking right here and look up and down the street. Just from where we happened to be standing, we could see five restaurant signs for the exact same specialty. Then I asked her why customers from one of these other places would switch to your place if they were already regular customers of somewhere else. The restaurant business is so competitive here that you have almost no hope of success.

@OnThe0therHand LOL! I'm being serious! I'm American and have been living here in Taiwan for close to three decades. I have friends in mainland China. It used to be incredibly cheap and fun to travel there.
