Japan needs China for her future survival simply due to the fact that she needs access to the vast Chinese market as China's current middle-class consumer population has already surpassed the entire US population, and this number will double in 5 to 7 years. Japan's limited land and resources, along with only 1/12th of the population of China, does not have enough capacity to sustain her future growth. Being a next door neighbor, Japan will not miss the train on the Chinese transformation from a manufacturing-based economy to a service/consumer economy. Abe and his cabinet know this reality very well.
