If you like history then you know these men fought a war to keep people enslaved, don't honor them with statues but put them in history books
5
These men were white supremacists just like the Nazis
5
@tamething1 no, not at all, these statues are symbols of white supremacist of men who fought a war to keep people enslaved, unless you are all for people being enslaved then you would too
4
If you want true historical statues have some of these men standing by a tree with a slave hanging from it. That's a statue that will teach history correctly
3
@wg4405 then we are in agreement, these statues must come down because they are a symbol of white supremacists. Good I'm glad we agree
3
Don't honor these men that fought a war to keep their slaves with statues, put them in history books not in parks
3
@noirsake8057 just like ones of Lee
3
@rowstone3019 the history is still in books, we don't need statues of these white supremacists traitors
3
@lpsoldin3162 twist it anyway you would like but the cause of the civil war was fought for southern plantation owners to keep their free labor but it was sold to the southern people as of southern pride. They were conned
3
@DMcPherson cool, I'm glad we could come to some agreements on things, take care my friend
3
They should put up a statue of Timothy McVeigh in its place because that is history too, about time this statutes of white supremacists are removed
2
@alisaSDgal put them in museums then under the the title of those that tried to destroy the United States
2
@joedoaks6517 put them in history books not in parks then. It is an honor to have a statue and the cause of the civil war was not honorable
2
@joedoaks6517 reading is how I educate myself, I don't need statues of men who fought for people to be continued to be enslaved. I understand southern pride I have it myself, but why not put up statues of southern leaders that fought the white supremacists nazis in WW2
2
@DMcPherson I appreciate your response, first I agree some of those knuckleheads that just tore down any statue without knowing any history or whose statue it was I believe were just dumb kids looking to destroy anything. 2nd if there was just a couple of southern generals statues in the United States, fine. But the problem was, in my mind, organizations like daughters of the Confederacy that put the statutes everywhere to promote the lost cause idea. I can totally see how people see these as symbols of white supremacy and enslavement. I understand that their were other causes of the civil war but the main one was unjust and times have changed, as they should have, and most people see these a war to keep others enslaved
2
@tomjones4835 I don't care if you call it Democrat or Republican or libertarian or what ever party the fact remains racism isn't good for anyone on either side and we must work toward a better America by treating everyone equally
2
@ItsReload1 George didn't go to war to keep people enslaved
2
@musgrave-griffin5953 lol, you are right. I believe that the insane clown posse and keebler elves were at play too
2
@musgrave-griffin5953 thank you for your service
2
@marcmeadows1819 the fact is the European and Dutch slave traders first tried capturing the slaves from Africa and other brown skinned places. That didn't go well for them so they started paying local chiefs and tribes to capture them which became profitable for both parties, but this narrative you chose is wrong because when the rest of the civilized world was ending slavery the southern states had huge plantations that made a ton of generational money and to bring in indentured servants was much more expensive so rather that see slavery as morally wrong they started pushing narratives of they were doing slaves a favor by keeping them enslaved. Kansas was the hot spot when it was becoming a antislavery state. See it for what it is, slavery for the profit of rich men that spilled America blood to keep slavery alive, sad and sick
1
@GG-lv6fc you're welcome Fox news
1
@alisaSDgal how about they put a statue of Malcolm X across the street from you house
1
@alisaSDgal what you fail to see is these generals and their ideology was to divide America to have slaves, put them in history books and museums not in front of courthouses. Erect a statue of a local WW2 general that fought the white supremacists Nazis if you want history
1
@Kila5489 just saying I like my history accurate
1
160 years to late. Shoulda been gone years ago
1
If they want true history have these statues of some of these men standing by a tree with a black man hung in it
1
@Kila5489 no it definitely happened southern plantation owners didn't want to give up their slaves so they conned the southern population that their rights were being taken so the south seceded to keep people enslaved then civil war to keep their free labor, it definitely happened
1
@DMcPherson I don't recall Reagan or churchill fighting a war for white supremacy but I do recall churchill fighting a war against white supremacists
1
@akdreaming I respect your opinion and hear you but the fact remains the leading cause of the civil war was the fear of the southern plantation owners losing their slaves if the federal government outlawed it and thus giving the northern states a more economically advantage with the industrial economy of the north. But to die and kill to keep free labor was unjust hence the Daughters of the Confederacy erected southern generals statues across the south to promote their lost cause propaganda.
1
@TruthOverFear21 tell it like it was!!
1
Let's put a statues of porn stars across from your house because they are a part of America history too
1
@marcmeadows1819 they gave the victims of the holocaust reparations
1
@Kila5489 yes perhaps we can replace this statue with the one I mentioned
