***** No, I don't skate, but I played video games rode bicycles, climbed mountains, etc and i Say the Same Thing about them, and almost everything that humans do.
Just because you do them or a small part of the world does them, or heck, even a big part of the world does it, it STILL DOESN'T make it sensible to Kill your partner and commit suicide.
Like you are to SkateBoarding, almost all humans are to some other activity. So are you telling me that EVERY ACTION we do, Is meaningful, Then why aren't you doing the things many of the other 7 billion right people are doing, do you not "find meaning" in them?
You see, the word skateboard, didn't exist outside a lot of america for quite some time.
You might understand in time.
Another person bashing usernames, lol.

greg humiston I actually have. Not as a hobby, but as a "hey, lemme try the board for a sec".
You see, IF the FIRST people who 'invented the skateboard' never let it become a reality, You and everyone who's so attached to it, like they would die if it left them, wouldn't even know that it could have existed and will NEVER miss it, because you don't miss something you never knew about. And would be doing something completely different and Saying the SAME THINGS about that. Heck, you could just be born in Afghanistan or Mongolia, and never even know what a skateboard even looks like.
I can just, simply start making circles on the wall, and saying "this gives my life meaning and I would be nothing without drawing these circles on the wall, and nobody can say anything because they don't know what it feels like."
And you know what? If I think hard enough and trick myself (as everyone does them, in their daily lives, to do the things they hate, just to get the things they don't need), IT WILL Become like that.
Same goes for everything else that humans come up with. It's all a temporary fad, created arbitrarily, which people like to stick to and blow it out of proportions, and then use the people below to cash in on, and then leave. boom.
It should be played as a sport, enjoyed as a sport, loved as a sport, kept as a sport. But the folks who get the $$$$ out of it, DO want you to feel like it's your life and it means more than just entertainment, or why would you pay them?
Everyone wants an 'easy meaning and purposefulness to life', but there's no point sticking a fad to it, and saying "done, meaning found."
Hope I'm not being harsh or anything, I just wanted to give you a perspective of what skateboarding is and How Tiny fraction of space it takes up on the "Human Timeline".
Not always fun to think like this, but helps get a bigger perspective of things, more than what concerns just us in our towns and homes, in contrast to time and space. <3

szymborski11 Perhaps, yes, that could be. Even among crazy people and their actions(or what leads to madden them), there are so many things from upbringing to their genes, so that makes it hard to conclude, yes. But, most people are built(or prefer) to conform to the environment and create a positive feedback loop kind of thing, a wanted 'culture'. But there are so many sports-people you can see who've gone 3deep into throwing some things around. Because it is also about the money they make. You can't deny that it drives people crazy. Because there is the element of money within us, some choose to feed it, some can reject it, we call it greed ;).
Oh, and they become intertwined, so that feeds itself, bam.
