  2. I feel your pain, Jay. I live in the deep south in the USA, and I can tell you that the heat and humidity combo is a killer. I'm 67 and have always been hot natured since I was a child. Growing up, we did not have A/C but now, I could not survive without it! I love cold weather myself and during the winter my heat stays mostly off, and my window slightly opened. Watching you sweat, I was thinking that you'd be better off taking a dip or two in the lake. Stay cool my friend and bring a bigger fan next time, industrial size.

It is good to finally see your mother and you can tell just by the look on her face when she looks at you that she loves you very much and is proud as she can be at what you have accomplished.   10. Enclosing the porch is a great idea! Just a thought, what about screening in the top half and building heavy shutters to close them off to the elements, that way you can sit on the porch in the spring, summer and fall enjoying looking out over the landscape, especially if it's raining. Storage and a porch all in one room. So many possibilities. Watching you eat the French toast made me hungry again and I just got through eating...lol. Looking forward to your next video!

  11. Great idea sleeping in a tent on the roof. You don't have to worry about bears or other critters bothering you. Glad you thought of putting up a railing around the roof. As far as being stranded on an island, I would have to go with regular Fritos. Looking forward to seeing more of your great ideas. Thanks for the dipping bread in bacon grease idea. Now I will have to try it as I'm a bacon lover...lol.

  15. Don't feel bad about not catching any fish. I've been fishing since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Both of grandfathers took me fishing throughout my childhood and I continued fishing in my adult years and I'm now 67. I love fishing but alas fishing does not love me. I have always used a cane pole and worm bait and all I catch are mainly minnow size fish. If I remember correctly, the biggest thing that I ever caught was a turtle...lol. You'll make up for no fish in the winter, to catching boat loads this summer. I have faith in you Jay! Stay safe and looking forward to your next video.

  17. If the price is right, go for it! Another adventure in store for you. I would definitely do three things right off the bat. The scenery and the beautiful sky at night is most memorable to me and I guess that's because I love nature. You have taught me so much by what you did with the tent. Till my dying day, when I think of you, I'll always think of you in the tent, standing at the doorway, drinking your hot beverage while looking out at the snow-covered beauty of your little piece of Paradise. On your new quest in the cabin in the woods, I am looking forward to new and just as memorable times ahead of you and us, your viewers. If at all possible, always keep the tent and revisit often.   33. Jay, I enjoy all of your videos. I especially like when you show the aurora borealis views, they are beautiful to watch. I'm a 66-year-old woman who is disabled but in my younger years, loved to go hiking, canoeing, fishing and just generally enjoy nature with all of its beauty and peacefulness. Your videos bring me close to nature again and I thank you, kind sir. The jackery 3000 is a game changer for sure. Wish I'd had one back in the day, lol. Looking forward to many more of your videos! By the way, I know it ain't any of my business but by golly, marry the girl!

Jay, I don't know if this will be feasible for your situation but to help repel the mosquitoes, plant these plants around your place or put them in outside window boxes: lavender, marigolds, basil, peppermint, lemon balm, and catnip. We live in North Carolina near a creek and in the summer months the mosquitoes drive us crazy but since we started planting these plants on our patio, the mosquito problem has gone done exponentially. Also, you might want to run a box fan at night in the bedroom to blow away the mosquitoes from you. Hope this helps. I love to see you work things out. Live and learn. Thanks for teaching us too!

  37. Glad you got to do some camping. It's nice when you've got someone with you to share nature. With bears around, I think I'd have something more than bear spray. I'm thinking about a gun like Jesse Ventura used in the movie Predator. Then, I'd feel safe.

  38. Sounds like Murphy's Law gave you a run for your money this trip. Glad you were not hurt. Sounds like you got a good plan to fix the problem of the deck. I have a question about the snow and ice on the roof, is it sturdy enough to handle the added weight of the snow? I know of roofs collapsing when the weight of the snow is too much for the roof to handle. I just don't want the roof collapsing in on you. Thank you for including the northern lights as they are so beautiful to see.

  42. Buy a rat trap to catch that squirrel. Also, I have a question. Since the sun has increased activity, have you seen an increase in the amount and intensities of Aurora's? Maybe you could use your little heater to help dry out the dampness of the tent. Stay safe.

  43. I was raised in South Georgia here in the USA and we called your slits, kindling. Also, what you call Bannock bread, we call it hoe cake bread and usually eat it with flour gravy using bacon drippings or we eat tomato gravy with it. Glad you figured out the drill thing and the saw. Sorry about not catching any fish. There's always next time, besides, the act of fishing is part of the fun. Be careful picking up those big logs. You'll hurt your back for sure. Wear a back brace when doing heavy lifting. Take care and happy wintering in the cabin in the woods.

  48. Well, your little cabin in the woods is a wonderful getaway. A home away from home. Now, during the summer months, all you need to do to continue to enjoy that little cabin is add an air conditioner. Move the stove/oven outside and then you'll have a cozy cool getaway for you and your girlfriend and daughter. By the way, the oven that Jerry made for you, was just what you needed to make your cabin complete for the winter.
