It may have been a pandemic, but that pretty much ended in May. It's now endemic, like flu. The number of deaths each month is comparable to a bad flu season, like 2017-18.

How about government spending lower? Can't keep cutting taxes and increasing spending.

No, you should play it safe if you're scared, but others shouldn't be forced to be scared. Old sick people die. They die from heart disease, cancer, flu, and Covid.

@daviddyson7359 You could argue that the 6% who allegedly died while healthy is even lower. If you look at the CDC website on pre-existing conditions, it lists 8 conditions that are at increased risk. It highlights "that are" in bold. Those are the risks that they're counting in the 2.6 comorbidities stat. Then they have another list of 12 conditions that " may be at risk". And I would add another, vitamin D deficiency, since multiple studies have shown a correlation between deficiency and bad Covid outcomes. I think it's safe to assume that a decent percentage, probably a majority of the 6% had one of those maybe conditions. So the number of truly healthy people who died is a few thousand out of 330 million.

@alvaroflores8831 the problem is that when you give up your rights for security, you're often not more secure, and you rarely get those rights back. From forced lockdowns and masks to forced vaccination is a very easy leap, and I fear that the people will go along with it. The cost of the lockdowns has far exceeded the cost of any extra deaths. When political decisions are being made, the costs need to be weighed against the benefits. It is a harsh reality that there is a dollar value to a life. Courts and insurance companies make this calculation every day. Saving lives at all costs sounds great in the abstract, but in reality it has done horrible damage to society. Your right to control your own health hasn't been compromised. You can simply stay in your house until you feel it's safe to come out.

It's moot, not mute, but all drugs should be legal.

@JWH91969 We're spending far too much on military. There are no threats on the horizon. Other countries should be paying for their own defense instead of freeloading off of us. Lower taxes don't lead to less government, just bigger deficits. Reagan preached small government, but ended up caving in to Congress. The way to have smaller government is to spend less. It's so bloated that you could cut every department's budget by 20% and nobody would notice the difference except for all the dead weight that would be fired.

@JWH91969 We'll have to agree to disagree on the threats. As I said previously, cut the spending first, then when it's under control, you can think about lowering taxes. 47% of Americans don't even pay federal income tax. As for schools, that not a responsibility of the federal government. The Dept of Education should be abolished. As for kids being self reliant, that's not the job of government either.

Until after Floyd's funeral. Then Covid quickly retook the headlines.
