Crickett yah, once he saw Yang and others doing it and saw the political need to cover his flank. Bernie is the "no, people want to work" as an answer to Yang's UBI ,guy. Without Yang, Bernie would be pushing for the same crap he has been for 40 years, aka NOT money in people's hands.

@mycelia_ow Yah, and Warren's plan had the billionaires pay for the whole M4A... but once reality pops in, none of it holds because they own the politicians and armies of accountants. Yang was going to use VAT which cannot be avoided and so would have transferred lots of money from the rich towards the rest... that's taking reality into account and not just pandering.

@avalangrin4904 I'm not a JDS zombie as I don't agree on his fixation for M4A as my fixation is more general: UBI. But he is right that progressives don't have leverage often and if they ALWAYS NOT use it, then they aren't about shit.

@westleymullins I respect what you say there but I have a problem with the continuing of the old way of fixating on subsets first and then, maybe, somewhere down the road, on the rest. Also, M4A single payer is a behemoth of a policy, not something you can do the first 6 months and then pass to something else. This being said, even though I think focusing on M4A is detrimental to UBI, at least they would be standing for something instead of talking about revolutions and then idling when they actually have leverage which I can't stand anymore.

no he isn't. Yang is the one that has been pushing for money in the hands of the people. Bernie has always pushed for more taxes and then evaporating the money through corruption, bureaucracy and ineptness. He hates money in the hands of the people just as much as Pelosi and McConnel do. Only reason he panders now is because JDS has been breathing fire on the fake socialists because they once again wanted to not use the power they momentarily had.

@wahm7872 Bernie has never been about money in all people's hands but always about taxing everybody, evaporating most of the money through bureaucracy and what else and then redistributing the rest to subsets, not particularly the poorest... which is an inverse-UBI as it takes money from people every month. This is the opposite of that.

@wahm7872 yah, but in the real world, the middle class and poor people, the years they do well, end up bleeding their best income years. And I agree, M4A single payer is exactly the kind of Bernie program aka not the state being used to ping-pong money into people's wallets.
