same here... I'd help build a statue to Bernie but I prefer Yang's UBI and how it would transform the society.

@kineticenergy8774 Yang has made no such comments. It's one of the worse attack lines I've ever seen... "that Asian guy, son of immigrants, that hasn't one racist bone in him is... a white supremacist"... that's it in all it's glory.

@kineticenergy8774 the alt-right is poor and struggling and hates the way niches to receive help are created... that is why they love his UBI. I believe UBI would reduce the amount of racism for a long list of reasons. The problem I have here is that he said nothing wrong and people are trying to use that against him. As for minorities, they would gain massively from UBI so I believe he is talking to them. Also, don't underestimate how 12k a year could change a life long republican's vote especially when you consider all of them that are tired of the corruption, warmongering, unconditional support of AIPAC, decade long empty promises and are suffering from that trickle down view that was sold to them. Lots of republicans work in the domains being automated, streamlined and offshored. With the amount of inequality around, 12k per citizen is not to be spit on, left or right.

@PenneyThoughts yah... lots of libertarians/conservatives love it because taxes are returned to the population and come with no strings attached and reduce the bureaucracy and the state doesn't get to play funny with it, choosing who can access it, etc. It also transfers resources to fly over states.

oh but he does... he just doesn't, just like I, accept that people already receiving all the help should stop others, some way more in need, from getting help too if they don't get their additional share. And most people on welfare would gain a lot from UBI because most people do not get 1k a month from it, most people can be bumped, most people don't enjoy begging, most people don't enjoy the stigma, most people would like to work more if the occasion arrives and the ones with children would be thrilled by the help their children would get pass 18. And plenty more.

@kineticenergy8774 nothing wrong with feeling bad for poor whites. That does not make him a racist, a white supremacist or any of that. He talks about the suffering of everybody and his solutions are targeted at everybody.

UBI is about everybody receiving 1k... if you are already receiving over 1k in welfare, why should you get more money from UBI? If a politician wants to have a program to funnel additional resources to those, they can run/pass bills on on that . Why should someone stuck on the street continue getting squat because you want more?

UBI would be mostly paid for by the rich as it would be paid for from income taxes (mostly on the rich) and VAT taxes, mostly (but very probably far from exclusively) on luxury items. And why in addition to current benefits? How could UBI possibly end up reducing welfare spending?It's the biggest welfare spending ever... the only difference is that nobody falls off the safety net... for the first time in history.

UBI is a small salary for life... why complain about a step towards what you want? Or do you mean the state should create fake jobs so all people get salaries?

@deadsoul2662 republicans very probably won't have the majority in the senate after next round as most of the seats at play are republican owned currently. Also, if their constituents are for the program, it would put pressure on them instead of current situation where there is no repub constituent pressure for them to follow on dem bills because their voters don't support those.

@deadsoul2662 I agree with you. I was so sure it was this way, when people talked about a phase-in I thought they were trolls. I tend to miss the first seconds of videos and it was there. Yah, I don't like that phase-in. He'll need to get his UBI passed... that should be all the time needed to be able to start sending the money all in one day. Not a deal breaker for me but I'll need to see more about what he meant there.

yah, apparently making sure everybody has at least 1k a month to live on should be abandoned because we should be talking about inequality and not resolving it. UBI helps there... empty words don't. And there's nothing regressive about VAT.

Unless it adds to deficits, it's hard to predict what effect it would have on it. * since it would be a bill in congress, congress would decide how VAT is applied * his VAT tax would be, in average at 4% and so the poor would see, dunno, 2 to 3% raise in prices. ** people that receive squat, including the poorests, the ones that receive nothing while having nothing would gain 1k. ** the people that receive under 1k would net the difference ** the people that receive 1k or more and would find a job would gain ** the people that receive 1k or more and don't get a job, wouldn't gain anything apart from intangibles such as security from loosing their help, less stigma and such. Ofc, the ones that have children around 18 would gain security for their children.

@MK-oz2lf worker coops would be great sure... UBI doesn't stop that in any way... actually it could help it happen by giving resources to people to start their business. No, he doesn't want to remove the other social programs... only the ones covered by the 1k UBI, at the height of 1k.

@MK-oz2lf Nobody is running on ending the concentration in ownership of the means of production. Something being potentially better but not on the menu anywhere does not turn something good into bad nor into something in the way of what is not on the menu.
