  1. This happened to my dad when he was 62-63 and his came home one day and said his job had decided they did not need him and he was let go. I heard him and my mom talking that night. My dad was sure they would call him because he was the only one who knew how to do x-y-z and when they realize that they will rehire him. Well he was part right. They did not want to rehire him but they wanted him to come in and train them. He said yea ok and threw out some outrageous number. They accepted and he went in and trained them. He liked it so much he spent his final working years as a freelancer. Made more in those last years than he would have if they did not let him go. What started as a bad thing ended up being good for him. He kept doing that work well into his late 70s. Set his own schedule and took on what jobs he wanted. The lesson here is always be ready to pivot. That hobby you have might just make you enough to be able to retire early instead of looking for a job in your 60s

  3. I just nailed an interview and got a job offer thanks to Erin. I followed all of her advice and did everything she suggests in this clip. During orientation my supervisor who was showing me the job was also one of the interviewers so I asked him why I was hired. I told him I was part of an online support group and would share his answer if he did not mind. He said it was fine. They interviewed around 12 people and hired 1. He said and I quote him here. “You interviewed well.” I was not expecting that. I thought it would be my experience (28 years) Or my professionalism. Nope. It was my interview skills. Thank you Erin.

  4. I recently lost a PT job I was at for 28 years and honestly thought I was going to retire from. There I was. 57 years old and back on the market. I needed to find a PT job to replace the one I lost and thinking nobody’s gonna want to hire somebody who’s 57 years old. Im putting in applications all over and getting little action on them. Yea I could prob get a fast food job or retail job. I have tons of experience in both but I did not want a min wage job. I came across your channel and It changed everything. I changed up my resume and started getting interviews. I brushed up on my interview skills and went in with confidence knowing I got this. I landed a nice PT job working for my state in my field of work. When I got hired I asked them why they hired me over the other candidates. My supervisor told me along with my experience I interviewed well. Thanks Erin. You helped immensely. I look forward to your new venture.

  5. Went for a job interview for custodian at a state college. Now Some might think oh they will hire anybody. No. Thats far from the truth. I went for a city custodial job and there was over 100 other applicants. They took us in bunches of 50 and we had to take a test. Kinda like the post office gives. So I get an interview for a state college. I looked up the colors of this college and wore clothes in those colors. I walked into the interview wearing a blue polo and all 4 of the interviewers were wearing blue. I have not done anything yet and I already look like I belong.

I had a job I really liked but after being their for 4 years I realized their was no upward mobility chances for me for a long time so I searched and found a new job where I could grow and move up. I put in my notice and the next day I was in a meeting with my regional manager. I explained to him the only reason I was leaving was the lack of chances for moving up in the company. He offered me a pretty nice package to stay but I said again it’s not about now it’s about my future. He said well thanks for your honesty. Please hand over your keys and other company property. We are terminating your employment. I did as asked and immediately filed for unemployment. I took those two weeks to fully relax and spend some me time which I had not done in a long time. Since then I vowed to never give notice again.

  9. Be confident. Fake it if need be but be confident. Just got a job after three months of trying and 6 interviews. I asked my supervisor how many were interviewed and why they chose me. He said they had over 100 applicants and they interviewed 20. They hired 1. Apparently I interviewed well. Im sure the other 19 they interviewed had just as much experience as I did. I asked them exactly what the job duties were and explained how I have done exactly what they are describing I finished by asking if there was anything else they needed to know. They had a few questions I answered. I thanked them for interviewing me and shook everybody’s hand and told them I looked forward to becoming a part of the organization. I followed up with a thank you for interviewing me e mail.

  10. I got denied. I called my doctor who told me to call the insurance and then call him back. Its a game they play. The insurance person told me if it’s not a matter of life or death they need more info. So I asked what info do you need besides my doctors saying I need this test. They sent me to rehab. They sent me for an ultrasound. They sent me for a ct scan. Finally they approved my mri. The mri pinpointed the problem and after over a year of being in pain the problem is being fixed. If they just approved the mri in the first place they could have saved the money they spent on all the unneeded tests they made me go to

  11. We had a special needs employee working with us. He would meow and make noises all day long. It did not bother any of us but management made a no meowing or animal noises rule. This guys social worker sees this note and goes to HR. HR informs management they cannot enforce this against a special needs employee as that would be illegal. So we had a rule everybody had to follow except the person the rule was created for. Lol

I pull a very good work friend to the side and I ask him who died. He said your grandmother passed last night. He was working mid shift and he said my sister called in crying and took the night off. I must have had this puzzled look on my face. I checked my phone. No texts from my family. Hmmmm So I call my mom and casually ask her how grandma is doing. Mom says fine. My friend starts laughing. He said I looked so confused. I had to take a bereavement day to keep my sisters lie a secret.

  26. So I go thru the self checkout with my 5 things. Each one beeped and I pay and walk out only to be stopped by security and escorted to a security room to await the police. So there we are. 2 cops. 1 security guy and a manager. They play the video. It shows me and It shows what I am ringing up. Each item beeps but for some reason the second item did not register a price but it did register a description. The cop asks to see it again to see if I was doing anything to the register. Im sitting there quietly. Finally the cop says it looks like equipment failure to me just go and pay for the one item. I said I wanted the incident report. He gave me his card with his badge number and an incident number from dispatch. My lawyer thought it would be more trouble than it’s worth to sue them. I paid him to file the lawsuit anyway. Walmart contacted my lawyer and we settled out of court. Not anything interesting. It was just the principle of the thing. Who steals .69 cent sponges from walmart?

  29. Its time? Where have you been? It’s been “time” for many decades now. It never should have gotten this far. Let the cops carry their own insurance like doctors do. Hell as a tax payer ill even carry the policy at normal rates. We already do anyway. Once an officer loses a lawsuit the rates for the whole department goes up and the tax payers pay it. Under an individual situation all cops are in a group but when one causes a lawsuit and loses only his rates go up and he is responsible for any increases. To many lawsuits and you become uninsurable. That equals unemployable.

  45. You are incorrect in that a public library can demand you leave for any reason. A private establishment has that right but not a public building. If he was in there just filming as is his right under the constitution then the police should have informed the library staff and any concerned citizens of the law. Anybody private citizen who does not want to be filmed could have moved to a different part of the library. There is no expectation of privacy in public. The library staff should know or be informed of the law. They can make all the policies they want but they do not Trump the constitution. If on the other hand he was creating waves as you say and being disruptive then they had every right under the constitution to ask him to stop being disruptive or leave. Filming by itself cannot be deemed disruptive. From what I can see here he was just filming and not disturbing anybody. This could have easily been handled if the police knew the law. I don’t expect every cop to know every law or interpretation of Law but a simple call in to a higher authority or the DA and this whole mess could have been handled differently.

There are places that put up signs still like Grocery stores or retail which is what I did for work. Im glad it worked out for you. As for that other poster. Haters gonna hate.   66. I walk slow. Always have always will. Basically I do not allow myself to be rushed. My old boss left for a better job and the new one asked me to do something and get it done quickly. I moseyed my way over to do what needed to be done when mr boss comes over and says “ I don’t know why I asked you to do this I could have done it in the time it took you to get here “. I looked at him and said I know whats at the end of life and I’m in no hurry to get there. Now since you can get this done so quickly have fun doing it. I feel sick and Im going home early. I left and told HR I didn’t feel good and I left for the day. Next day I go back to work fully expecting to be “ talked to”. Nothing was said to me. Boss acted like nothing happened. Now when he asks me to do something xtra theres no drama. I do what Im asked to do. In todays work environment thats a plus.

Fast forward 10 years later im working as an assistant manager at a different restaurant and the owner brings in a new manager. It was the guy from the past who did not like me. That day he fired me sating our management styles did not match. That did not fly at unemployment and I was able to collect until I found a new job

  71. That happened to a friend of mine. He got arrested for a fight and there were some other things in there and he went before the judge with a bunch of charges. His public defender was super swamped with cases and he told the judge that yes he was drunk and in a fight but most of the charges were bogus and he did not feel that the public defender was defending him properly. Judge said theres a plea deal. Either accept it or plead innocent so he did that and got a jury trial. We did a go fund me campaign and some hometown fund raisers and got him a lawyer who immediately got him an extension. The original plea had his jail time at 5 years. He would instead get probation for 3 years. His new lawyer got almost all of the charges dropped and the charge of assault dropped to a mister meaner and the public drunk charge dropped to public nuisance. He had to do 100 hrs community service which was basically walking the town beach for a few hours every Saturday picking up trash. No probation. No jail time sitting over his head and when his 100 hours were done his record was sealed. Not to disparage public defenders. They do the best they can but their case loads are just crazy. Prosacuters take advantage of this and load up the probation system. Its all a huge money maker. You’re better off getting your own lawyer if you can.

I took a job cleaning schools for the city pension. Last year I took a second job. PT with the state for another pension. In 9 years when I hit 67. Ill have SS. A nice city pension and a small state pension. Il be ok

  98. I have a full time job 2-10:30pm. For the past 28 years I had a pt morning job working for christmas tree shops. They went out of business and I needed to find a job to replace it. I was 57 when they went out. I had 3 months advanced warning so I started looking right away. I was very worried about looking for a job. I was 57 yo and had not had to look for a job for a very long time. Learning how to find a job in today’s world was in itself a job. I did get a job working in the same field as my night job. It took me almost 7 months to get an interview and eventually land that job. Not like when I was much younger and could and did find a job in a day. All I had to do was ride my bike around and put in applications in every place I wanted to work. My answering machine would have at least 1 call back on it by the end of the day. Now its all online and theirs ghost jobs and you never know if your application is even getting thru some computer vetting it to a humans eyes. My daughter had to teach me how to write a resume and tailor it to the posting to get past the computer. Then there were the many hours I spent watching how to interview well u tube videos. All with great information on how to answer those hard questions. My last interview was two questions. Tell me about your experience doing this job and can you start tomorrow. This new interview was with 5 people and it lasted 45 min. I feel lucky to have been hired.

  100. Nothing so creative as these people. Back in the 90s I was managing restaurants and had been working in restaurants for over 20 years. I was getting burned out and was thinking about just chucking it all and finding a different line of work. There were 3 managers and a few supervisors who were trained to open and close so there was always somebody to cover days off and vacations without issues until the owners decided they did not want to pay front line hourly workers 2 dollars extra an hour to be supervisors. This left opening and closing duties to be performed only by managers. So we said we needed to hire at least 1 more manager. Owners said no. 3 was enough. So we went on like that for about a month and then one of the other managers quit. That left only 2. We decided that we would work M-F. He would open every day. I would close every day. Then one of us would work all day Sat. And the other would work all day Sunday and we would switch that as well. The owners said they would hire a third soon. This went on for a month. One Friday night one of the owners came in to do a check on the place and I asked him how the search for a third and hopefully a fourth manager was going. He said oh we decided since you two were doing so well we would not hire a third and we never had plans to hire a fourth. I asked him if he was kidding. He said no. I then asked him if he knew how to close the restaurant. He said of course he did. It’s his restaurant. I started this place he told me and I can do everything in here. Good I said. I Quit. Have fun running your restaurant. Oh and don’t bother calling the other manager. He’s on vacation until the end of next week. I was gonna work doubles to give him time with his family so now you can call the other owners and figure out how to cover your manager shifts this weekend next week and next Saturday. I handed him my keys as hes telling me im making a mistake and he will make sure everybody knows how I quit. Ill never get a job again. I just went in back and grabbed my stuff and left. Later that night I get a call from the other manager. They called him up and wanted him to come in and close because I quit. I said yea I quit. They have no plans on hiring another manager. He said he figured as much. Then he said they threatened to fire him if he did not stop his vacation and come run the store. He told me he said well then I quit too. Lol Turns out he had another job lined up and was waiting for them to offer him the job before he told me. That place went out of business less than a year after that. I felt bad for all the employees but the owners were not worth working for after they decided to cut pay and manpower to save money

  103. Go on interviews. I never thought Id be looking for a job again. Im 57 and my main job is 2-10:30 at night. I had a PT morning job and after 28 years the place went out of business. The first interview I went on I was a nervous wreck. It showed and I did not get a call back. I kept on going to interviews. Even ones for places that were way down on my list. Each interview gave me knowledge and I was more confidant because of this. I got a job offer after 2 months of looking at my second choice and accepted it. 2 days later my first choice offered me a conditional offer that I accepted and started the process of sec check, health check and fitness check. I passed everything and was offered the job with a 2 week or 4 week start date. I told them Id love to start asap but I have committed to a job prior to their offer and needed to give notice and I took the later date. It was only 2 months until I got that first job and 3 months until I got and started at my first choice job but it felt like a year. I went on 8 interviews and 2 video interviews. Out of those 10 interviews I got 2 job offers. 2 emails telling me they decided to go with somebody else but would keep my name on file for a year and one voice mail regretfully informing me that the job went to another applicant. The other 5 ghosted me.

The end of the blue line needs to be now. The desecrated American flag needs to be stricken from the police force. They need to know its not us against them. Its us against us. We need to change it back to us for us. Good police need to step up and help get rid of the bad no matter what rank. Good chiefs need to get rid of the bad cops. Good Mayors and citizens and cops need to get rid of bad chiefs. Its that simple. The police have lived behind protecting their own for to long. They are supposed to be protecting the constitution and the public. When did they lose that ?

  156. I no longer drink but back in my youth I drank. One day driving home I got stoped for not completely stopping at a stop sign. I had 1 beer at a friend’s house. I even told the cop I had 1 beer. I refused the field sobriety but had to take the breathalyzer by law or lose my license. Well I had requested a blood test because the breathalyzers are not accurate. They took me to the station and the breathalyzer showed .01 over the limit. I got charged and processed and let go. I immediately went to quest and got a blood draw test and that saved me. Even with .01 over its still a dui conviction. We submitted the blood draw to the court to show I was way under the limit. The prosecutor argued time was a factor in my low blood alcohol content. We had an expert that showed how blood alcohol works and going backwards from my blood draw it would take 3 hours from over the limit to where I was at that time. Since my arrest was apx 2 hours before my blood draw it was medically impossible for me to be over the limit at that time. Also my lawyer was asking for all the documentation for the machine and the police were working on the request and were asking for a continuance. The judge sided with the medical expert and dismissed my case.

So I vote and we go to the city hall and talk to the official there. She said we had to go back and vote at our designated polling place. She said each polling place has a book of all eligible voters. The voter rolls only has the names of people who have voted in the last 3 years. So I said ok then why did he send us here if he can look it up there. She said she would look into it. I said thats fine but you are gonna call him up now and make sure all is fine. Im not doing this go here go there go back there go back here stuff. So call him and make sure he knows what to do. She called him and after a few min she said we were good to go vote. We went back and he took my wife off to the side and verified her and allowed her to vote. While she was voting I asked the guy why he sent us downtown if he was supposed to verify her here? Oh I said. I know. You are a republican. You saw that I was a democrat and you figured you’d give us a hard time. Not smart for you. For one I made a complaint at city hall. When I get home I’m gonna make complaints with the Secretary of State and the attorney general of our State. I hope you have a good excuse. Now I cant prove he sent us downtown because Im a Democrat but when I accused him he did not deny it and actually looked a little scared

  192. Usa here. I have a friend that wants to get me in on what she is doing. She has 4 customer rep jobs all wfh. 2 are full time 2 are part time. She starts at 7am and is done by 5pm. For most of the day she has 4 separate screens open on 2 monitors. She moves between the calls sometimes taking two different calls at the same time. She has been doing this for over 2 years at this point. She said she tried to fit another one in but it was to difficult to keep her productivity on the others in the green as she calls it. So she basically has 4 jobs at the same time and collects 4 paychecks. As long as shes doing the work I see no issues but I’m not sure her employers would see it that way.

I was sitting on the front porch eating lunch on break and their two daughters apx 11-12 y/o were talking and laughing to each other in Dutch.   239. For the past 25 years I had 2 jobs. One main job 8 hrs a day working 2-10:30 and a morning PT job for extra money. A year ago my PT job went out of business in July. I was 57 years old and not sure if that would work against me. I learned pretty quickly that sites like monster and indeed were fairly useless to me. The one thing they were good for was giving leads to where the jobs were. I would then go to that company’s hiring website and a lot of the time the job on the big job sites would not be on the company site. I got my daughter to fix my resume and started sending it out into the world along with watching videos by Erin and other u tubers to get advice on how to navigate this job searching world. Like she says in this video. I used to just find a job in the paper and go apply in person. Most of the time you got an on the spot interview. So this was all new to me. I guess I was either lucky or all the advice paid off. It only took me 4 months to find a replacement morning PT job. It pays more than my last pt job and is stable. Applying directly to the companies website and practicing Erins interview tips got me this job. I fully believe without updating myself with utube videos on how to interact with todays hiring climate I would never have found or been able to land this job
