President Clinton, President Obama, and President Biden, all Democrats, have given Ukraine hints at supporting its Independence from Russia, but not enough to maintain its 1991 borders. Now Ukrainians have NOT always spoken with 1 voice. Americans heard independence talk, but then Ukraine elected Russian puppet leaders. By 2014, Ukrainians finally decided fight for Independence from Russia. This included full EU integration and NATO Membership. President Biden has slow walked Ukrainian aid.
President Trump has 2 responses in support of Ukraine. 1ST, he will make the US energy independent. This might not sound like Ukrainian support, BUT, increased US oil/gas production will lower world oil/gas prices. Russia needs $35 per barrel to break even. They have to discount Russian oil by about $20 per barrel. If oil drops from $80 to $55 per barrel, Russia makes zero revenue. US increased production should lower oil prices to $40 per barrel. 2ND, President Trump does not want a long war in Ukraine. He will back Ukraine to win 300 Abrams MBTs, 600 Bradley IFVs, and 200 F16s. Plus enough ammo to win. The US will want Ukrainian trade deals under President Trump. And yes, the US will push NATO Membership for Ukraine IF Ukrainians agree to spend 3% on Defense spending.
