  1. David, I agree with your disagreement with Hina— I have a family in India, and an Indian military background. However, this— this disputation and open exchange of views— this is what makes for a civilized world. Our problem is not that we know each other well, but that we haven’t the incentives to accommodate each other. Fundamentally, though not as represented by Hina, Pakistan has legitimate interests that we, the US, have transgressed. Remember, Bin Ladin was the hero that beat the Soviets, and we trained and equipped him. Remember too that the person who dismembered Khashoggi was extolled as a friend by Trump. More civilians died in Iraq AFTER we “liberated” them, than did under evil Husain. Putin wouldn’t be in power if we had managed our victory well. Instead we pushed our advantage ill-advisedly and over much. Leading first to Putin, and finally to Ukraine. Peace needs humbleness and self reflection and accommodation of interests. Pakistan needs to do a lot of that. So too do we.
