  1. It got down to 12 here in Virginia Beach. Easily the coldest night in over 4 years I've been here. Normally the Gulf Stream currents offshore moderate our winter temps here. "It's a cold night for alligators." For those of you who like a good Roky Erickson quote on special occasions. When the first Euro settlers arrived there were alligators in the Great Dismal Swamp, roughly 20 miles west of here!

  2. I put a big crockpot of Christmas Chili on to simmer overnight... not nearly as spicy as I generally would. In case Santa wants to scoop himself a bowl to warm up.... Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! BOILED ham? Never had it. Living around here in SE VA, the epitome of hamitude is Smithfield salt-cured ham! PERFECT on a biscuit with a dab of good mustard. Who loves mustard on their french-fried potaters?
