  2. Gotta call you out again, Styx.... Turkey gave Crimea to Russia in 1783, as part of a treaty deal. It's been ethnically Russian most of the time since then. The USSR ceded it to the Ukraine in 1954, for reasons not altogether clear to this day. Ukrainian attacks on the eastern regions known generally as Donbass began in 2014, a region mostly Russian in customs, language and other interests. Putin would have been a bad leader is he had NOT moved to protect the region.
