I'm Kyrgyz and I live in London.
We have Siberian roots (Russia) Religion is Islam and our language is Turkic (Tatar, Turks, Uzbek, Saha, Chuvash, Kazakh, Bashkirs, Gagauz, Turkmen, Kara Kalpak) group of languages. But we speak more of a Russian.
So when I meet my clients or go to pub it's always questions about whereabouts. Guesses starts from New Zealand and ends with Japan, Native American, China, Mongol etc.
Its been like that for the last 20 years.
Lately I just say Russia, Siberian.
It can be annoying.
When u say Kyrgyzstan people say Kurdistan.
Kazakhstan also sometimes because it was famous after Borat).
People in the West have a very poor knowledge of geography.
