Merrill Lynch received billions of dollars from its insurance arrangements with AIG, including $6.8 billion from funds provided by the United States government to bail out AIG. Merrill was purchased by Bank of America (Commercial Bank) at a discount. Merrill's old management was replaced. For this topic, normal bank deposit customers should expect their deposit to remain with Commercial Bank type. Risky banks are with the investment banks i.e. note the bank type.
