That's the why it is supposed to be in most countries. How countries handle motor laws says a lot about the country. Years ago I lived in Italy, no one ever used the turn signals in the car, one had to really watch the car in front and how they handled their vehicle. However, many areas of the USA are similar to part of Europe too. While in California, the pedestrian always has the right of way., which is an alien concept in Chicago or NYC.

@multa7053 That's funny! It's been many years since I lived in Roma and FIrenze, but that was certainly my impression! Love Italy and the people!

@Wolff13 Understand. Haven't lived in Italy for years, so not a good resource. Depending if you want to own or rent, that will determine where you end up. If you want to buy, I would avoid real estate sites that go for the luxury buyers, there are likely deals when one is there. But the best values are likely in some of the hill towns rather than in Firenze. But depending on your budget, you can live in FIrenze and enjoy life there. Comfort means different things to different people. I've seen what I would call a decent 2 bedroom for 1300 Euros/month. To me, that is reasonable and if one walks to cafes and the like, that would be a great lifestyle. If you can afford more, than you will find a fairly decent selection.

@James Bond There are many frustrations in living in LA. I nearly always drive in the slower or mid lane, if that option exists. Being in a more rural lane, we have a lot of 2 lane roads, so that is not always an option. I try to pace myself where there will be less traffic, I realize that is difficult in LA, but in most areas there is a pattern to traffic, and I do the work arounds. I keep myself off the roads during commute hours, since I live in a Coastal area, I am aware of tourists and do not do unnecessary travel then. This has reduced my frustration level.

@NigelHyphenJones The handwriting is on the wall considering that Warren Buffet sold most of his stock holdings. Should be a wake up call to many investors.

@James Bond Not saying I agree, but that's the law out here. California is the most litigious state in the union. My point was to not to view CA or NY as the norm for the USA.

@Atlantis That's how it is done in many countries, same in many Central American countries. In the USA, in many areas the left lane is equivalent to the " Fast Lane". One is suppose to give fast moving vehicles, the right of way which means moving to the the right hand lane, which is also known as the slower lane. This is part of the motor vehicle law, but many do not abide by it. Probably the reasoning behind it is that there is a reason a vehicle might be going fast: emergency vehicles and so forth. One of the motor vehicle laws that are obeyed in the USA, is slowing one's vehicle or stopping when an emergency vehicle like an ambulance, Fire truck or a police vehicle sounds an alarm. I've noticed this doesn't happen in many areas of Europe.
