  1. Basically true. And hell it doesn't even need to be a film or story. Everyone from Mike Tyson to Floyd Mayweather both had extremely poor and troubled youths which necessitated them to fight to survive just in general, in every single way. It's out of desperation like that that breeds great fighters.

  2. China's a communist country so they may also be doing it because the state told them to OR they don't know what else to do with them. Something like that. It's really similar to how it works in other communist countries as well, if you show a talent for music, boom you are then sent to study music. If you're a throwaway citizen who may have some anger problems and/or is often getting into fights, send them on their way to learn Boxing and/or MMA, which is the fastest growing sport in the world. Yeah, sure they can make a good living for themselves in the end but the reality of the fact is anything they can develop young people to do to compete with the west, especially with the west, they're going to jump on it. It's less for the welfare of the boys and more that China is trying to diversify into any areas it can compete and win against the West. On a private level like UFC itself all the way up to at an Olympic level.
