Before he formed Dianetics and Scientlolgy, L. Ron Hubard was an usucsesful science fiction writer. He was interviewed in an SF Fanzine, where he said "The best way to get rich is to start your own religion." The second best is to start your own science." Shortly after than, he started Dianetics and called it a science. Then he formed Scientology and called it a religion. I know people who knew him. True story.
