@dennisweidner288 Lol, take a step back and start learning some real history - not this propaganda garbage from the visdtors If we cared about democracy and saving innocent people, do you really think we would have allied with Stalin and allowed him to enslave half of Europe Just to remind you, Stalin had already killed tens of millions of people and created a hideous police state full of gulags before the war even started
4
@dennisweidner288 First of all you say the 'forces of democracy' - And yet Britain was an imperialist power that had the world's largest ever empire, throughout which democracy was mostly prohibited While the USSR was a hideous police state dictatorship that had killed tens of millions of its own citizens Then you say that the Nazis were the 'primary threat' - primary threat to who? Germany repeatedly pleaded Britain and France not to declare war and to be allies in the war against Communism In 1939, the USSR had already killed tens of millions of people, whereas Germany had essentially killed no one The USSR also had a very clear expansionist policy and had already taken over numerous small countries As soon as you stop reading the official propaganda, this all becomes clear
4
@dennisweidner288 Hitler had no desire for war with Britain or France- he literally begged for peace His beef was with Russia, we let the USSR enslave half of Europe and we have the gall to call it victory for freedom
4
@dennisweidner288 I know your kind - you watch documentaries like 'The World at War' and think it's not propaganda Let's go back to 1939....... Germany united with Austria with the consent of the vast majority of both populations. They then invaded a small part of Czechoslavkia full of German speaking people. They then made it clear that they wanted the Danzig corridor back from Poland - an area full of German speakers that had been taken away from the country after WWI and which connected Germany to the North Sea - search for Danzig corridor and see how ridiculous the situation was. Germany clearly wanted some colonies in Africa and war with the USSR seemed very possible. Now let's take the USSR: It had already killed tens of millions of people in the most horrendous circumstances imaginable, constructed a network of hideous gulag camps where people were worked to death and had created the a truly horrifying police states. It was hated by everyone that had the misfortune to live there. Furthermore, the USSR had invaded and occupied numerous independent countries (including Finland) and had clear expansionist aims. And remember, the USSR invaded Poland at the same time as Germany - but we decided to let that go for some reason. Now let's take Great Britain: It had the world's largest ever empire, most of which had been taken militarily. Throughout most of the empire, democracy was forbidden, mostly on racial grounds: if you were white you got democracy, if you were brown you didn't. The empire was the most powerful force in the world at that time and wanted to keep things that way. Now let's look at the result of WWII - Britain and the US allied with the USSR and allowed it to enslave half of Europe - and they called it a victory for freedom - lol Germany made it very very clear that they had no desire to fight Britain or its empire or France or any other Western nation - we declared war on them, not the other way round The result of WWII was an annihilation of freedom for half of Europe and tuning the world's most horrific police state into a super power WWII had nothing to do with fighting for democracy or freedom - it was a war fought by superpowers for strategic motives, like all wars All the rest is propaganda to make the sheep feel happy and warm and to get them to enlist Wake up - our crimes in that war were horrific
3
@dennisweidner288 You mention the Nazi extermination camps - but there was no mention of such a thing in 1939, they didn't exist nor did anyone think they would ever exist So to claim we fought a war against Germany because they had extermination camps makes no sense It makes even less sense given that Stalin did actually have forced labor camps and had killed tens of millions of people BEFORE the war had started As for Solzhenitsyn - his most interesting work is 'Two Hundred years Together' - which still hasn't been translated into English (wonder why that might be)
3
Germany repeatedly tried to make peace with Britain - it was Britain that declared war on Germany, not the other way round
3
@dennisweidner288 I just wrote a massive reply to your comment - and that;s all you can come up with We live in an age of mass propaganda - that extends to what supposedly happened during WWII and why - the idea that we were the good guys fighting for freedom and were therefore justified in burning hundreds of thousands of German women and children and allowing the USSR to enslave half of Europe has to end Rise above the propaganda - give it a try
3
@andreasklisch3695 as a german you are one of the most propagandized people on earth Wake up and realize the lies you refuse to even begin to question
2
@dennisweidner288 he made untold offers for peace with both britain and france He had no desire of any kind for war with them Why do you think rudolf hess was kept imprisoned alone for so long Stop reading 'historians', they tell nothing but lies
2
@dennisweidner288 Get back to the History Channel
2
@dennisweidner288 Whatever - I wrote a truly massive reply to your comment If you don't want to read and reply then don't But don't hide behind faux outrage at some mild mocking
2
@Joshua Roesner you're knee deep in propaganda As for Poland - did you forget that that the USSR invaded Polsnd at the same time as Germany and enslaved it for 50 years? And why was it OK for Britain to have the world's largest ever empire? As for no one knowing that the USSR had killed tens of millions of people? Are you serious? The USSR had also invaded numerous countries before the war and tried to take over Finland Start afresh with what you think you know about that war - avoid official sources
2
@SuperLusername We literally made an agreement with Stalin that allowed home to take over half of Europe - we had a conference and days of talks and agreed to the USSR becoming a super power We also armed the USSR to the hilt and provided an unimaginebale amount of weapons, trucks, food and support of all kinds We literally made it all happen How can you be unaware of this? How can you honestly argue that WWII had something to do with protecting Poland and ridding the world of a tyrant when we helped a tyrant who had already killed tens of millions of people to take over Poland and half of Europe Seriously, where is you're brain at? Stop watching the 'World at War' - it's called propaganda for a reason
2
@SuperLusername You think britain wanted to 'help' Poland? And you think they provided this help by allying with the evil USSR regime that invaded Poland at the same time as Germany and enslaved it for 50 years? Seriously? This is how you think?
2
@SuperLusername if I'm a nazi apologist you're a stalin apologist We helped one of the most evil men and regimes take over half of Europe - may they forgive us
2
@dennisweidner288 lol, turn off the History Channel, it isn't there to tell truth
2
@andreasklisch3695 you think we live in democracies - lol
2
@andreasklisch3695 i suggest you keep an open mind and remember that the victors write the history books
2
@andreasklisch3695 we had a global empire throughout most of which democracy was unknown, we allied with a psycopath and helped him enslave half of europe And we call it a victory for freedom - lol
2
@SuperLusername We didn't have to ally with anyone, we were under no threat of any kind But if we were going to ally with someone, it certainly shouldn't have been the USSR. Just to remind you, the USSR killed tens of millions of innocent people before the war even started, created a dystopian police/gulag state, and invaded multiple independent free countries Because of our support - they went on take over half of Europe In what possible way can that be called a victory for freedom or democracy? It's also worth remembering that Britain had the world's largest ever empire at that time throughout most of which democracy was totally unknown - the idea that we went into that war to spread freedom or democracy is nothing but a pipe dream Like all wars it was fought by elites for imperials aims - the rest is propaganda
1
@andreasklisch3695 why was giving half of Europe to stalin a better option? Why was it OK for Britain to have a massive empire that only gave ddmocratic rights to white people? Why was it OK for the USSR to invade Poland st the same time as Germany?
1
@andreasklisch3695 how does that justify allying with the ussr and giving it half of europe? Why was it ok for Britain to have the world's largest ever empire?
1
@user-xk5fs1zu3m the ussr invaded Poland at the same time and took over half of europe - we allied with them As for Britain - it had the world's largest ever empire You seriously claiming that war had something to do with fighting for freedom?
1
@wekapeka3493 we gave half of Europe to a psychopath - what a great victory for freedom
1
@SuperLusername Germany hadn't even come close to committing genocide by 1939 whereas the USSR had already killed tens of millions of innocent people The USSR had also invaded multiple independent countries before the war and also invaded Poland at the same time as Germany We then let the USSR take over half of Europe - sending it into a dark age it is yet to re-emerge from The idea that Britain entered the war to free the world of a dangerous tyrant is nothing but idiotic propaganda for the dumb masses - who as usual were used as cannon fodder
1
@wekapeka3493 that was essentially the tesult of WWII - we agreed to them taking Poland etc.... Incidentally, the USSR invaded Poland at the same time as Germany
1
@wekapeka3493 but it was ok to ally with Stalin? And give him half of Europe?
1
@SuperLusername why was it ok for the ussr to talk over multiple countries and kill tens of millions before the war even started? Why did we need a strategy to stop hitler, but not one to stop stalin? Why did we support one of the most evil men and regimes in world history and let him enslave half of europe? Just admit you love stalin
1
@SuperLusername powerless? His army was a joke until about 1941, without our support itvwould have stayed a joke We had decades to do something about him Instrad we watched as they slaughtered tens of millions and invaded neighbouring countries Then we armed him to the teeth and agreed to him taking over half of Europe - we literally agreed to it and paid gor a lot of it
1
@SuperLusername The USSR army was a joke pre WWII - they failed to defeat Finland and had a massive technology gap with the West At first Germany sliced through it like butter, taking millions of prisoners Gradually they adapted - plus we armed them to the teeth and sent untold amounts of aid and materials of all kinds, the figures are truly mind boggling By around 1942 they were no longer a joke and Germany was running on fumes Why was it OK for Stalin to kill tens of millions of people, create a hideous gulag state, invade multiple countries and then enslave half of Europe? In what world was that a victory for freedom, democracy or good? None of that would have been possible without our support - we literally agreed to Stalin taking over half of Europe and becoming a superpower, while arming him to the teeth to do so Step away from the propaganda - WWII had nothing to do with protecting Poland or stopping a tyrant
1
@Kevin-mx1vi no one has ever claimed it was a death chamber camp - compared to what the ussr had at that time, it was nothing
1
It was straight up murder - more people died in Dresden in one night than during the entire Blitz in London
1
We declared war on Germany
1
@howardpayne4128 so why did we ally with the ussr and let it take over half of Europe - including poland?
1
@howardpayne4128 yes, certainly nothing to do with supporting poland or freedom
1
@howardpayne4128 they should never have allied with the ussr in the first place - the regime had already killed tens of millions, invaded multiple countries and created a dystopian police state before the war even started Because of us, they took over half of Europe
1
@howardpayne4128 why? They had no interest in war with the British empire or the us
1
Britain (with the world's largest empire) allied with the USSR (the world's largest police state) to fight for freedom and democracy - lol, people will believe anything
1
I thought the Brits were first to engage in civilian bombing with the raid on Berlin
