Truth is the enemy of the winners of that war

Just to remind you all that they threw David Irving in jail as an old man for what he said - should we not be outraged about that more than some mistakes or lies he may or may not have made in some of his books? We are lied to everyday by politicians, academics, historians, etc.....

Well what we know beyond any doubt is that the 'official' historians lie for a living and that the winners write the history books So, of course be skeptical about Irving, but he should still be read as some of his work is remarkable His book on Dresden was regarded as a classic worldwide - it was only when he went 'off message' about Hitler that his career was destroyed I have no doubt that his books contain some mistakes (perhaps even deliberate) - but our newspapers and official historians lie to us all the time We live in a world of mass lies and propaganda - best to have an open mind

. mainstream historians lie for money, in comparison Irving is a fountain of truth

"We killed altogether about 400,000 Germans, one third of them in the two fire storms in Hamburg and Dresden. The Dresden fire storm was the worst..... Unfortunately, Dresden had little military importance, and anyway the slaughter came too late to have any serious effect on the war." Freeman Dyson

"Kurt Vonnegut wrote a book called , or about the Dresden raid. For many years I had intended to write a book on the bombing. Now I do not need to write it, because Vonnegut has written it much better than I could. He was in Dresden at the time and saw what happened. His book is not only good literature. It is also truthful. The only inaccuracy that I found in it is that it does not say that the night attack which produced the holocaust was a British affair. The Americans only came the following [p. 29] day to plow over the rubble. Vonnegut, being American, did not want to write his account in such a way that the whole thing could be blamed on the British. Apart from that, everything he says is true." Freeman Dyson

@XHitsugaX some smashed shop windows - not exactly a big deal back then

@warrendsmith6832 Kurt Vonnegut is a primary source - he was literally there David Irving is a unique historian in that he relies very heavily on primary sources Freeman Dyson is a primary source from bomber command
1
@warrendsmith6832 No one who was actually there had a clue what was going on, it was a day long fire storm I've provided three excellent sources In any case, the argument over numbers isn't really the point It's the depravity of the intention to wipe an entire city off the map

@ImperativeGames Who praised Hitler?
1
@ImperativeGames Yeah, our politicians have to protect the public from the truth - great idea

@Truthaholokz "We killed altogether about 400,000 Germans,* one third of them in the two fire storms in Hamburg and Dresden. The Dresden fire storm was the worst. But from our point of view it was only a fluke. We attacked Berlin sixteen times with the same kind of force that attacked Dresden once. We were trying every time to raise a fire storm. There was nothing special about Dresden except that for once everything worked as we intended. It was like a hole in one in a game of golf.† Unfortunately, Dresden had little military importance, and anyway the slaughter came too late to have any serious effect on the war." Freeman Dyson, British Bomber Command
