  1. I think that Blacks would be more immune to it and could give some form of immunity to whites living their through intermixing. Or after a hundred of years whites could gain it as well. Sounds like a lesser form of sleeping sickness which was very prevalent in Sub Saharan Africa.

  5. Massive Native civilizations still lived in the past in those areas. You can also argue that those large storms we see today were far less common due to climate change and massive measures could be taken to limit their impact. Japan is a very disaster prone but nothing like that happened. They also have the rest of the south with places like Georgia and the Carolinas producing shit tons of food.
