In typical Republican cult alternate-reality fashion, Scott's speech is full of misinformation, disinformation, and distortions. It would take all day to debunk all his B.S., but to give just one example: Scott conflated Biden and Democrats with school's not opening last year, but Biden had no control over that, he wasn't even President. In fact, the Federal government had no hand in that; the decisions were made by state and local governments. And, no, the science wasn't conclusive on school's being safe long ago. A preliminary study in Wisconsin had indicated that if a number of measures were taken and conditions met, schools could be fairly safe. But not all schools were capable of taking those measures, and conditions could not be met because COVID-19 case rates were too high in most places, or classroom to small for adequate social distancing spacing. Those decisions not to open schools more widely to in-person learning were taken by health officials, schools, and both Republican and Democratic elected officials, and were typically based upon the science and the advice of medical health experts. Moreover, schools didn't actually close; it was moved to remote online classes, which may not have been ideal for some students, but still provided benefit to the vast majority of children. So, it's inaccurate and hyperbole for Scott to claim that American children lost a year of education. Moreover, many children in America had already been home-schooling using online classes before the pandemic, and will continue doing so after it is over. Apparently, in Scott's warped brain, home schoolers taking online classes shouldn't be allowed to graduate, because he somehow thinks they didn't receive any education.
